New Stripes: Miami Sol Unveil New Logo, Uniforms

The Miami Sol, ahead of their second season in the GSL, released their updated identity on Monday, which cleans up the logos as well as uniforms. The refresh includes the primary logo that was accidentally leaked by the team just a few weeks ago, which sports a slightly revised design and a simplified color scheme.

The colors remain similar for Miami, although certain changes have been made. For the 2021 season, the Sol sported two shades of orange to complement navy and a dark aqua, two colors that battled for dominance. As the season progressed, the navy became the more prominent color featured among the team’s branding as well as uniforms while the aqua took a backseat. The white jersey with aqua numbers disappeared after week 13, and the aqua jersey was worn only in week 4. Now the color has been ditched for a heavier emphasis on navy. The navy has also been darkened slightly and the orange was made brighter.

Onto the biggest part of the reveal, the Sol will debut an entirely new uniform set for the 2022 season. Their new uniform set includes a new helmet design (shown in their primary logo), as well as stripes everywhere, from the jersey to the socks.

Elements retained from the previous set include the jersey and pant colors (excluding aqua) and the number font. Each uniform includes either a navy or white striped sock (The returning Eclipse uniform donning black striped socks) and the Sol wordmark on the collar. Additionally, the Sol revealed a Color Rush look, introducing navy pants that are specifically worn with the navy jerseys. However, the most striking new addition to the Sol look is the new alternate grey Monsoon uniform, which owner John Nelson stated “Was intended to be a reversed version of the Eclipse uniform”. The look is reminiscent of the 1970s Minnesota Vikings home uniforms as both used similar striping patterns on the sleeves.

So far the reception to their new uniforms have been overwhelmingly positive across social media, and fans are anticipating the release of apparel in the coming weeks. The Sol will take the field in their new threads in early 2022.
