2022 Central Division Preview

2022 Central Division Preview

Eastern Conference

Central Division

This is clearly the best division in the Eastern Conference, and possibly the league. Not only are there three teams that can compete for the division title, but there’s a case to be made that there are three teams that can compete for the number one seed in the conference. Any team in the central division that makes a wild card spot should be dangerous come playoff time.

Birmingham Owls
Offense: poor
Defense: average
Overall: poor
The Owls are going to have a tough start to their first season. They’re clearly out classed in their division, which is going to make it tough for them to get to the playoffs. There are some playmakers here and there, but there are too many holes, and a lot of competition in this league. We will see what this team is made of this year in a tough division.

Cincinnati Knights
Offense: good
Defense: good
Overall: good
The Knights were a good team last season, winning a playoff game at home, and playing tough in their divisional loss in Pennsylvania. The core of this team is still intact, and the offense has made some key improvements in the running game. They’ll be playing for the division crown this season, but they will have competition. This team should expect to make the playoffs, and anything less than at least one playoff win would be a disappointment.

Louisiana Royals
Offense: good
Defense: good
Overall: good
The Royals were a miserable team last season. Now, everything is in front of them in 2022. They will have stiff competition from the Knights in the division, but this team can win the division and make a play at the top seed in the conference. The Royals got the right players in the right spots, and like the Knights, anything less than winning at least one playoff game this season would be a disappointment.

Louisville Lightning
Offense: good
Defense: average
Overall: average
With the strength of the teams at the top of the division, the Lightning might get overlooked, but that would be a mistake for any team playing them. Louisville has talent, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The schedule may be in their favor as the Central Division has opportunities against Atlantic and Heartland Division teams to get some wins. The Lightning should be in the mix for a playoff spot down the stretch, and would be a dangerous team to have to play in July.
