2022 West Division Preview

Western Conference

West Division

The West Division is clearly the most competitive division in the league this year, at least at the start of the season. Every team should have a realistic shot at a division title, although some teams are in a better position than others. This is another division that should go down to the final week of the season, unless one of these teams is able to pull away.

Las Vegas Outlaws
Offense: average
Defense: good
Overall: average
The Outlaws decided to focus on defense this offseason to keep them out of the high scoring games of last year. This should help their lackluster, but effective when needed offense. In a highly contested division, it’ll be the play making abilities on the defensive side of the ball to collect sacks and force turnovers that could be the difference. Even if Las Vegas falls short of the division crown, they have a good chance at playing some summertime football.

Los Angeles Express
Offense: good
Defense: average
Overall: good
This should be the best Express team fielded in their third season in the GSL. The Express have brought in defensive players that should make up for any shortcomings from last year. The offensive tallent hasn’t really improved at the skill positions, other than bringing in a big upgrade at QB. Quarterback play may end up being the difference for Los Angeles this season, in a division that has good teams all around, in which anyone can win.

Salt Lake Trappers
Offense: average
Defense: average
Overall: average
Although Salt Lake comes out as average across the board, they do have a shot at winning this division, or at least making a go at a playoff spot. They will need to steal some wins within the division however, if they’d like to talk about the playoffs when summer starts closing in. The Trappers running game is their true strength. Ball control football is the game Salt Lake needs if they’re going to win the West.

San Diego Breakers
Offense: good
Defense: average
Overall: good
The Breakers are built much like the Express for this season. They had a decent offense last season, but needed defensive players that could stop the big plays, and San Diego believes they have found that. The offense should be pretty good again this year, so they will need their defense to do enough to close out games.
