Week 1 Power Rankings - 2022

Week 1 Power Rankings - 2022

Week 1 promised to be one of the most exciting weeks in the GSL yet, with the addition of 8 new teams, meaning 4 more games to a typical regular season slate. We certainly got better than we could have hoped for, with shocking upsets, unbeleiveable comebacks, and heartbreaking chokejobs. With that, we've seen a lot of movement across the power rankings. we also have some very different rankings through different sources, after such a wild week, and so many unknowns accross the teams. Let's get into it.

We'll start with the FOX power rankings, released not long after Monday night's game concluded.

-Lightning and Breakers got a LOT of help from the top teams all deciding to fold this week, moving them up to #2 and #3 respectively
-Memphis losing as badly as they did has them dropping the furthest this week
-Although they didn't move up the highest, the Cityhawks took the biggest "jump"
-Birmingham moves up 7 spots with a 24 point 4th quarter comeback. Still insane
-No movement from the Keystones. Just an okay win but they did what they had to do
-LA could be legit. These early season games will tell us a lot about what they can do. Expect a huge jump from them if they can exit week 4 3-1 or better
-Boston could absolutely be a wild card contender

Next, we'll take a look at the Skynet Formula power rankings.

After such a crazy week, here are some things that are for sure. Louisiana took a big hit in the tankings after their stunning 24 point blown lead in the 4th quarter to lose to the Owls, who in turn, jump in the rankings. They were just one of the top teams to fall. Cincinnati lost to Louisville, but the Lightning were expected to be a decent team coming into the year, so not to big a blow for them. The Texans, who came in as favorites to Arizona got blown out, sending them down the rankings, while the champs are looking strong. Jacksonville, another team that looked good coming into the season, was a missed extra point away from going to OT with the Reapers, who many had lower on their list of talented teams.

All we can hope for now is that week 2 is just as good.
