Week 2 Preview - 2022

Week 2 Preview - 2022

Week 1 of the GSL season saw some wild games and some surprising outcomes. What’s in store for week 2?

Thursday February 24, 2022 - 8:15PM
(0-1) Chicago Maroons at (1-0) Pennsylvania Keystones
Line: PEN -3
O/U: 49
Win Pct: PEN 57.4%
The Keystones had a good showing in week 1 and are looking to keep the ball rolling at home against the Maroons.Chicago put up some points last week, but their defense really let them down. The Keystones were in a tight one until the offense turned it on in the 4th quarter, getting out of Baltimore with a win. This week’s game looks like it could be a close matchup, and the Keystones will have to rely on their offense again.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 1:00PM
(1-0) Atlanta Flying Fleet at (1-0) Louisville Lightning
Line: LSV -11
O/U: 47
Win Pct: LSV 74.9%
Both Atlanta and Louisville were 5 point underdogs in their games last week, and both came out on top. It’s typical to see this kind of fight from the Lightning, but this is new for the Flying Fleet. Maybe roster turnover in Atlanta has brought in a new mindset. Atlanta will need to be a tough team again this week, as they enter week 2 as the largest underdogs of the week. The Lightning had a great divisional win last week against a good opponent in a tight division, and they are expected to win games like this if they want to be in the division race this season.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 1:00PM
(1-0) Birmingham Owls at (0-1) Carolina Reapers
Line: CAR -4.5
O/U: 47.5
Win Pct: CAR 60.8%
Both of these teams played in crazy games last week. The Owls pulled off a stunning 24 point 4th quarter comeback against the Royals, and the Reapers blew a chance at overtime after missing the game tying extra point at the end of regulation. The Owls really shocked the league after playing a horrendous first three quarters. 4th quarter Birmingham needs to show up early in this game to keep pace with the Reapers offense. For Carolina, hopefully they aren’t hungover from that heartbreaking loss last week. This is a game they will need to win.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 1:00PM
(0-1) Louisiana Royals at (1-0) Jacksonville Captains
Line: JAX -0.5
O/U: 45.5
Win Pct: JAX 51.6%
After last week's devastating and embarrassing collapse, the Royals will need to get back on track. They face a tough team in the Captains, who just barely avoided a collapse of their own. Things don’t get any easier for the Royals, as they come into Jacksonville as slight underdogs. Maybe last week's loss will light a fire under the team for this week. Jacksonville has a chance this week to get a good leg up on conference seeding come playoff time, if they are the team we expect them to be during the year.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 1:00PM
(0-1) Miami Sol at (0-1) Cincinnati Knights
Line: CIN -7.5
O/U: 49.5
Win Pct: CIN 68.1%
After a disappointing start to the season, both teams will be looking to rebound in week 2. The Knights were road favorites last week, but were out played in the trenches. As bigger home favorites this week, the Knights need to get back to their strengths and pound the ground game. Miami was never out of their game last week, but they need to do better in close games. We saw the same issues from this team last year.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 1:00PM
(0-1) Portland Samurais at (1-0) Boston Bobcats
Line: BOS -2
O/U: 45.5
Win Pct: BOS 54.6%
Portland had a great defensive showing last week, but the offense is dreadful. The Samurais will need to rely on that defense again this week to keep the game close. Boston played a tight game in Toronto last week, but played great football in the 4th quarter to seal the win. In their first game with the home crowd, the Bobcats would like to keep the momentum going.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 1:00PM
(1-0) St. Louis Brewers at (0-1) San Antonio Texans
Line: EVEN
O/U: 47
Win Pct: EVEN 50%
This looks to be the closest game of the weekend. The Texans started off the season getting absolutely demolished by the defending champion Eagles. It’s not how most people saw the season starting for the Texans. The Brewers took care of a hapless Kansas City team in week 1, as expected. Week 2 will be a much tougher test, since the Texans actually have an offense (if it shows up).

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 1:00PM
(0-1) Toronto Terror at (0-1) Wisconsin Stags
Line: TOR -2.5
O/U: 47.5
Win Pct: TOR 56.1%
Both of these teams expected wins in week 1, and came out empty handed. This should fuel the fires in what can become a great rivalry in the GSL. Toronto has the slight edge, but anything goes in a divisional matchup like this one. The Terror will need to tidy things up on the defensive side of the ball, and the Stags need to get that offense going early in this one.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 1:00PM
(0-1) Vancouver Bears at (1-0) Washington Stars
Line: VAN -3
O/U: 39
Win Pct: VAN 57.5%
The Bears had a solid showing in week 1, but this team is still coming together. The Stars on the other hand, need things to start a little earlier. Down 6 to start the 4th, the team really turned on another gear and dominated the end of the game. They need to play like that every week. This expected low scoring matchup favors the Bears in this one.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 4:30PM
(0-1) Dallas Regulators at (1-0) Colorado Cabras
Line: COL -5.5
O/U: 43.5
Win Pct: COL 63.8%
The Cabras rolled over the Demons in week 1. They looked like a really good team, and have gotten off to a good start to the 2022 season. They will look to continue that against the Regulators, who could not get anything going offensively against the Atoms. The matchup will certainly favor Colorado, if they can get the offense rolling again this week.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 4:30PM
(0-1) Kansas City Buffaloes at (1-0) Albuquerque Atoms
Line: ABQ -4.5
O/U: 44.5
Win Pct: ABQ 61.5%
I’d expect much of the same in week 2 as we saw in week 1 from both of these teams. The Atoms defense should be able to handle the Buffaloes lackluster offense. Albuquerque's offense should be able to do enough to outscore Kansas City, unless the Buffaloes show us something different this week.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 4:30PM
(1-0) Los Angeles Express at (1-0) Las Vegas Outlaws
Line: LA -4.5
O/U: 43
Win Pct: LA 61.9%
The Express took their own tracks to an easy victory last week, while the Outlaws pulled out an ugly win. The outcome of this one may depend on how this game plays out. If it’s an ugly game from the start, that will favor Las Vegas, and their defense. If the Express can get ahead early, the Outlaws offense won’t have enough to keep pace.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 4:30PM
(1-0) New York CityHawks at (0-1) Oakland Icons
Line: OAK -0.5
O/U: 47.5
Win Pct: OAK 51.5%
Big win for New York to start their franchise in the GSL. The CityHawks defense played great through three quarters, and the offense helped keep the team ahead and put the game away in the 4th. They will face a tough defense in Oakland this week. We knew going into 2022 that the Icons would again have a great defense, but a poor offense. The Icons need to find the endzone more, instead of settling for field goals if they want success this season. This should be a close game, and if Oakland can keep the score down, that will give them the best chance at a win.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 4:30PM
(1-0) Salt Lake Trappers at (1-0) San Diego Breakers
Line: SD -1
O/U: 52
Win Pct: SD 52.6%
The Breakers did a great job toughing it out to get the win against the Icons last week. This week will give them a chance to open up the offense a little more. Salt Lake played solid last week, and they need to just keep doing what worked from last week.

Sunday February 27, 2022 - 8:15PM
(0-1) Baltimore Bluebirds at (0-1) Seattle Sockeyes
Line: SEA -5
O/U: 47
Win Pct: SEA 61.9%
Tough games for both teams last week. Seattle really laid an egg in week 1, coming in as close 2 point underdogs, but getting blown out of the building, losing by 30. This would be a good week to rebound, as Baltimore doesn’t have much tallant this season.

Monday February 28, 2022 - 8:15PM
(1-0) Arizona Eagles at (0-1) Memphis Demons
Line: MEM -4
O/U: 43.5
Win Pct: MEM 60.2%
Week 2 concludes in Memphis with a rematch of the Western Conference Championship (well, same franchises, but different name for the Deamons). Arizona showed that they’re still the team to beat in the west with a great win to kickoff the season. Memphis really struggled on offense through most of their week 1 game. They will need a good rebound here to get the season back on track, and hopefully last year’s playoff loss will be good motivation.
