2023 East Division Preview

2023 East Division Preview

Another GSL season is on the way, with preseason games kickoff in less than a month, and the regular season not much further after that. A change to a 16 game schedule in 2023 will make each game more meaningful, and more important to win. It should be an exciting season.
Last season saw a range of tallent between teams, with some surprises, both good and bad, from the season preview. Teams that were expected to be good (like San Antonio) turned out to face major problems, while teams that weren’t expected to be good (like St. Louis) made deep runs in the playoffs. Ultimately, the Louisiana Royals, one of the pre-season favorites, defeated the reigning champion Eagles in Gridiron Bowl II.

What will be in store for 2023? The season previews for each division will try and determine what may take place this upcoming season.

Eastern Conference

East Division

One again the East division at least looks like it will be competitive. All four teams look like they will be pretty solid this year. This should be a very fun division to watch, to see who comes out on top, if any team can break away, or if the division will cannibalize itself.

Baltimore Bluebirds
Offense: good
Defense: average
Overall: good
The Bluebirds should be much more competitive this season. They have picked up some good skill players, and have shored up the offensive line. The defense has improved, but there may be some holes that can be exploited. Overall though, the Bluebirds should be able to contend for a division title, in a very strong division.

Boston Bobcats
Offense: average
Defense: average
Overall: average
Boston had an exceptional season in 2022, and far exceeded their expectations. Can they do the same this season? This is a balanced team with good players throughout. They will at the very least be competitive throughout the season, but in this division, they will need to steal some wins.

New York CityHawks
Offense: average
Defense: good
Overall: good
New York had a good season last year, and they are looking to build on that in 2023. Again, they should have a good team. The run game is going to be their strength this season, with their great O-line. The defense will also be solid, with a lot of solid players throughout, especially on the interior and at the linebacker position. If this team can stay healthy, they should also be in the conversation for taking the division title.

Washington Stars
Offense: good
Defense: good
Overall: good
We finish off the East division with yet another good team. The stars have some offensive playmakers that will make this team interesting. On the defensive side, they have decent speed to cover the field. If there is a weakness for this team, it will be in the interior on offense and defense.
